So a new Singing Syllabus is to be released by the ABRSM in effect of January 2018.  It’s proving a little controversial amongst singers and teachers. What do we all think…..

THE FREDA PARRY SCHOLARSHIP FOR SINGERS

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE 2016 – AWARD WORTH UP TO £1,200
The Freda Parry Scholarship was established in 1973 in order to assist young singers hoping to follow a professional singing career. The Scholarship is offered annually and its maximum value now stands at £1,200. The competition is open to candidates who are under the age of 29 on 3rd September 2016 and whose permanent address is in the County of Essex.
In addition, candidates should:
EITHER be following or about to begin a course of advanced singing study (full-time or part-time) at a recognised institution of Higher Education
OR have attained a Government recognised Grade 8 Merit or above in singing and intend to continue further professional training.
Candidates are asked to perform a short (15 – 20 minutes) balanced recital programme of their own choice, which consists of:
An oratorio aria (sacred or secular), mass or other extended sacred work
An operatic aria or concert aria
A German Lied or French Mélodie
A British or American Art song

Saturday 3rd September 2016

Westcliff-on-Sea,
